The Jacquelin brothers' inspiring career in biathlon and technological innovation
The story of the Jacquelin brothers is one of fruitful collaboration between sport and technology, where the quest for performance and innovation never ceases to push back the boundaries, whether on the biathlon slopes or in the manufacturing workshops. They were at Global Industrie 2024 to testify.
Renowned biathlete Émilien Jacquelin turned an unfulfilled dream into an outstanding career in biathlon, the discipline he chose at the age of 17 after abandoning his dream of becoming a professional cyclist. Although he initially excelled in cross-country skiing, it was his desire to confront his weaknesses, particularly in shooting, that drove him to persevere in this demanding sport. Émilien rose through the ranks of the French team to become a double world champion and Olympic medalist. He attributes much of his success to his boldness and ability to take risks, a philosophy he applies both on and off the slopes.
At the same time, his brother Clément Jacquelin, a former biathlete himself, followed a distinct but complementary path by founding Athletics 3D®, a company specializing in the design of customized sports equipment through technological innovation. Clément drew on his personal experience and engineering studies to develop revolutionary products, including the first biathlon rifle to be produced using additive manufacturing.
The bond between the two brothers was particularly strengthened when Clément helped Émilien overcome a wrist injury prior to the Olympic Games. Thanks to a custom part designed by Clément, Émilien was able to adapt his shooting technique and remain competitive at the highest level, illustrating the importance of innovation and adaptation in top-level sport.
Today, Athletics 3D is no longer limited to sport, but is expanding into other sectors such as healthcare and industry, while continuing to meet the specific needs of athletes. For Clément, the key to success lies in a user-centered approach, where each product is designed in close collaboration with the athlete to meet precise needs, without imposing standardized technological solutions. Thanks to 3D printing!
